Actually modern surgical instruments do not differ that much from the ones used in the old days. A functional tool simply has a long life span. The quality of the material has, however, been improving continually. The instruments made of chrome vandium or vitalliumsteel seem to come close to perfection. This material cannot get rusty and has the rare combination of being very hard and yet quite flexible.
