Superconductivity For years Leiden was the Mecca of low temperature research. This research sometimes led to surprising results. In 1911, or example, it was discovered that electrical resistance suddenly disappears at extremely low temperatures: superconductivity. In this way research being conducted into resistance in metals at low temperatures bore unexpected fruit.
