Some organs, such as brains, are difficult to prepare because they decompose rapidly. They are also extremely delicate and therefore not suitable for being touched by groups of students. Starting in the nineteenth century wax models were made of organs of this kind. This was sometimes carried out in the research institute itself, but also in specialized commercial workshops.
