Veterinarians attending the National Veterinary School in Utrecht in the nineteenth century received instructions primarily in the anatomy, physiology and pathology of animals that are useful to men, for example horses and cattle. Van Lidth de Jeude illustrated his lectures with magnificent specimens, some of wich he had prepared himself. They provide an insight into the development of the teeth and elucidate the course of the major blood vessels, which he injected with wax.
