About the Foyer
In the 1980s the Caecilia complex underwent an extensive restauration, during with the glass roof above this room was constructed. Until 1861 the Dolhuis canal ran here. This formed the initial boundary of the Sint Caecilia convent built in 1440. The south facade of the original convent can be seen here. In about 1600 the convent was extensively converted into a plague house and lunatic asylum. During this conversion the internal walls were demolished, with the result that the outside walls started to lean and beams were needed to prevent these from collapsing.
